What is CGC? The Common Ground Collaborative (CGC) is a global, non-profit network of educators, schools and social entrepreneurs. We see learning as the key human capacity and are committed to building that capacity in ways that are simple, smart and sustainable. As part of and educator's role it is our job to be up to date with the latest initiatives and trends in international education. The CGC is a new project that started in Brussels and looks to extend to other international schools.

fORESIGHT EDUCATION

Mr. Willis Goldbeck during his presentation at the CMS library.
During the 2013-2014 school year I had the privilege to both attend the Foresight Education conference organized by the US State Department and also to host Mr. Willis B. Goldbeck on a visit to CMS to promote this fantastic program in our institution.

Foresight Education guides students through a rigorous approach to thinking—without limits – about alternative futures where the ultimate goal is to equip students with the skills to innovate solutions arising from future uncertainties. It engages their imagination and challenges them to consider ethical and moral implications so that they understand how decisions made today affects tomorrow. Along the way, students build their capacity for wisdom. They also learn new ways of thinking with open minds and open hearts.

rOBOTICS - TEAM DRIFT

Picture
Team DRIFT short for Dominican Robotics Incredible First Team was founded  to represent the Carol Morgan School of Santo Domingo (CMS) at US FIRST Robotics Competition. FIRST means For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. Team Drift is the first robotics team in CMS, and the first to be registered at the US FIRST Robotics Competition in the Dominican Republic.

This team was founded to promote the areas of engineering and science in the school, and hopefully convince other schools in the country to do the same.

mICROSOFT DYNAMICS gp mANAGEMENT SYSTEM

After reviewing different management systems we decided to adopt Microsoft Dynamics GP starting the 2014-2015 school year. Following a multilevel step by step implementation plan the administrative team received extensive training on this new software.

Microsoft Dynamics GP connects the many moving parts of your organization, giving you better visibility into and control over what’s going on in your business.
  • Human resources and payroll management Take care of people and payroll with a system that supports both.
  • Financial management Get a better handle on the numbers.
  • Business intelligence and reporting Base decisions on intelligence and relevant data, not on emergencies.
  • Supply chain management Use your supply chain to spur growth.
  • Sales, service, and project management Put customers first.

STEM labs

"... Leadership tomorrow depends on how we educate our students today—especially in science, technology, engineering and mathematics..."
                                     - President Barack Obama

STEM is based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines — science, technology, engineering and mathematics — in an interdisciplinary and applied approach. In order to help students reach their fullest potential we are in the process of renovating our science classrooms and turning them into STEM Labs. At the same time we are re-organizing schedules, resources and professional development opportunities to further this project across all levels of our school.
