I have to admit that Nicolaas was something else, when I first met him in Cochabamba at the planning meeting for the Bolivian Friendship Games in 2006. A couple of years later, for my fortune, he hired me to work at the American School in Santa Cruz, and since then I have been under his guidance and teachings for five years. I am glad that we became friends over those fantastic years, because I have not only learned about education, but also about life and family.
It is hard to summarize in a few sentences all he represents in my professional life as an educator. Nicolaas is in my mind every single time that I need to make a significant decision either as a teacher in my PE classes or in the administration area. His philosophy is definitely my philosophy, the one that promotes a
true learning environment for every kid and generates a collaborative community of learners and educators.
